The International Logotherapist Certification Programme
Terms and Conditions
Part 1 General
Article 1 The international community increasingly expresses the desire that existential therapy should be spread, widely applied and actively researched. In an attempt to answer the need, the Japanese Society of Existential Therapy (“the Society”) has developed the International Logotherapist Certification Programme (“the Programme”) in cooperation with Viktor Frankl Institute, Vienna.
Article 2 It is much anticipated that an academic and interdisciplinary approach deriving from existential therapy will be developed and applied to such sectors as public health, medicine, social work and education. Through the Programme, the Society distinguishes and certifies professionals who have expertise in such areas and high ethical standards.
Article 3 The Programme, which is based upon the educational principles of the Society, is designed to provide quality comprehensive medicine for the general public through an effort to maintain, improve and spread the high standards of comprehensive medicine at both national and international levels.
Part 2 Eligibility
Article4 Only individuals who satisfy all the following requirements may apply to the Programme:
1. Being a licensed medical worker, or having equivalent skills;
2. Having membership of the Society and no membership fees outstanding;
3. Taking part in at least one convention held by the Society; and
4. Earning more than 50 points.
Part 3 Application
Article 5 The society shall form the certification committee which has responsibility for processing an application.
Article 6 Applicants must submit application fee, Application for Certification and supporting documentation to the Society.
Part 4 Certification committee
Article 7 The certification committee shall consist of a select few commissioners. Commissioners must be accepted by the Board of Directors and assigned by the Chairman of the Board.
Article 8 A chairperson and a vice chairperson shall be appointed to the certification committee.
Article 9 Committee meetings shall require the attendance of more than half the commissioners.
1. Certification shall require the affirmative vote of no less than two-thirds of the commissioners present. Decisions regarding other matters shall be taken by a majority vote of the commissioners present.
2. The certification committee shall meet more than once a year, according to the circumstances.
Part 5 Registration
Article 10 A qualified member will not be registered for certification unless and until registration fee has been paid.
Article 11 The Society shall issue a certificate to members who have been registered. The certificate shall permit members to proclaim themselves international logotherapist.
Part 6 Recertification
Article 12 Valid certifications must be renewed every five years.
Article 13 Members with a valid certification shall have responsibility for meeting the requirements for recertification within the space of 5 years from the date they became certified. The requirements for recertification are provided separately.
Part 7 Termination of certification
Article 14 The certification committee will remove members from the register of international logotherapists if they have activities as defined in 1-5 below:
1. decline the offer of certification;
2. have their medical licenses cancelled;
3. lose their membership of the Society;
4. fail to apply for recertification; or
5. are judged incompetent by the Board of Directors.
Part 8 International mentor logotherapist
Article 15 An international mentor logotherapist may be appointed to train an international logotherapist.
Article 16 Terms and conditions of the international mentor logotherapist are provided separately.
Part 9 Miscellaneous information
Article 17 Any member may submit a complaint to the Chairman of the Board against a decision taken by the certification committee.
Article 18 The certification committee may amend these Terms and Conditions. No amendment shall be effective unless and until it is approved by the Board of Directors.
These Terms and Conditions came into force on 17th May, 2011.

Bylaws of the Certification Programme
Article 1 Members must abide by these Bylaws unless the following information is provided in the Terms and Conditions of the International Logotherapist Certification Programme (“Terms and Conditions”).
Article 2 Members may not apply to the Certification Programme until they fulfill all the requirements set forth in Article 4 of Terms and Conditions. Eligible applicants must submit both application fee and the following documentation to the Society:
1. Application for Certification (Form 1);
2. Resume (Form 2);
3. A copy of valid medical license(s), or a job description (non-medical workers only);
4. Declaration of membership of the Society; and
5. Point accumulation report (Form 3).
Article 3 Certification fees: the following fees are incurred during the process of certification. The Society reserves the right to revise these fees.
1. Application fee: 20,000 yen plus 8 % consumption tax
2. Registration fee: 30,000 yen plus 8% consumption tax
3. Recertification fee: provided separately
Article 4 Certification fees as defined in Article 3 are non-refundable, and shall be retained by the Society for whatever reason.
Article 5 Members with a valid certification shall be required to put forward accumulated points for recertification. Point requirements are provided separately.
Article 6 To request recertification, applicants must submit application fee and Recertification Application Form (Form 4) to the Society.
Article 7 Application for recertification must be submitted between 6 and 12months prior to the expiry date of the certification.
Article 8 The certification committee may amend these Bylaws. No amendment shall be effective unless and until it is approved by the Board of Directors.
These Bylaws came into force on 17th May, 2011.
